Cycle Mode International, Tokyo
While the stripped-down “fixed gear” racing machines beloved of hipsters and speedy commuters are still in vogue, the newest look harks back to the earliest days of cycling, when ladies and gentlemen took to the streets on Sundays dressed in their finest knickerbockers and tweed. The most recent bicycle designs reflect this trend, with major brands such as Giant and Specialized turning out spiffy street machines boasting baskets, balloon tyres and plenty of panache. Sora Menica by Rotafixa
(By Rotafixa)
Pure Monticiani bike, born as others in the most beautiful neighborhood in Rome (...). This bike is so named, however, because it was started on Sunday and ended on Sunday (...). Once completed, I decorated the frame with fake rust (...). A special feature: the seat tube is actually built, or better derived from the seat tube of the frame that stands above the junction. (By Rotafixa)
Bruno Venturi, bottega storica
The oldest bike company is still on business in Cesena, and probably is one of the oldest in Italy. It is the "Venturi" in Cesena, founded in 1919, which received recognition as “historic workshop”. Its founder, Augustus, was the grandfather of Bruno, the current owner who carries the shop on via Madonna dello Schioppo, selling racing bikes, mountain bikes and city bikes.

Bonavia Cycles
Nomen omen, if this law applies, then the frames built by Alan Ross in London should work fine. Pupil of Clive Bonavia, he graduated at the United Bicycle Institute in Portland, Oregon. Ross has just begun to make its steel frames. In this photo he’s at Tour de Ville with Paul Smith. That’s his blog.
Minima pedalia
I made myself a wonderful Christmas gift, titled Minima pedalia, written by Emilio Rigatti and published in 2004 by Ediciclo, but which I happily discovered only now. I read it from Christmas to Boxing Day, sipping the final pages for fear of finishing it too soon. The title intrigued me positively, because, as the author, even I was an avid reader of Adorno, although understanding maybe just half of his essays. A book for people with good taste, full not of quotations, but of wonderfool memories of reading, with which Prof. Rigatti punctuates his diary / not diary, never rhetorical, yet very dense of style: lucky are his students. Too bad there is not even a line to sing the heroic deeds of his faithful two wheels companion. (Photo: Emilio Rigatti)

Bamboo Bike Studio
The Bamboo Bike Studio is run by three men in their late 20s who know a lot about bamboo and a lot about bicycles. On a cool autumn morning, two of them are out on a bamboo harvest — in a dense grove near New Brunswick, N.J. (To be continued here)

Caldonazzo, Trento, Italy
He started building frames (as a contractor) in the '70s, under the care of a master, then he set up his own and has become perhaps the No. 1 in Italy. Dario Pegoretti is well known around the world, and from the shores of Lake Caldonazzo, in the mountains and forests of Trentino, is still making great frames, strictly on steel. Here is an article about him, here is an interview.

Salvatore Scarpitta, neofuturista
Salvatore Scarpitta (23 March 1919 – 10 April 2007) was born in New York City and grew up in Los Angeles graduating from Hollywood High School. He then attended the premier art university in Europe, the Academia di Belle Arte in Rome. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a "Monuments Man", finding, preserving and cataloguing art stolen by Nazis. After the war, Scarpitta remained in Rome and worked from his studio on Via Margutta. During his time in Rome he was represented by the leading avant-garde modern art gallery in Italy, Galleria La Tartaruga. In 1958 Leo Castelli saw his work and asked him to move to N.Y.C. and join his Gallery. Scarpitta remained with Castelli until Leo's death in 1999. Theirs was a partnership formed out of love, trust and mutual respect.

Bullitt - Case study #1: è nata una stella – a star is born

Swrve
Swrve is a small company producing big products, based in Los Angeles where its founders Muriel and Matt live, work and cycle. Swrve came into existence after Muriel and Matt's long search for affordable, stylish, yet functional cycling shorts yielded no results. It's little surprise that their shorts design, which has been honed by experience on and off bicycles, has become the cornerstone of the swrve line. Designed for men and women, they have been cut to perform perfectly when riding and stylishly when not. (http://www.swrve.co.uk/)
