Puntapè - Eugene Christophe

Eugene Christophe era un ciclista francese, nato il 22 gennaio 1885 a Parigi. Soprannominato "Le Vieux Gaulois" ("il vecchio Gallo"), vinse la Milano-San Remo nel 1910 con un vantaggio di parecchie ore, finendo metà gara congelato dopo aver pedalato in 30 cm di neve. La sua fama crebbe nel Tour de France 1913. Mentre conduceva la gara venne urtato da un'auto in cima al “Col du Tourmalet ", e l'impatto fece spaccare la forcella. Dopo aver camminato per nove miglia, trovò un fabbro e riparò da solo la forcella riprendendo la gara. Nel 1919 divenne il primo corridore a indossare la maglia gialla. Egli è anche considerato come l'inventore del punta piede. Nel 1925, vendette la sua invenzione alla società Poutrait-Morin oggi conosciuta come Zéfal, Eugène Christophe è stato direttore della Poutrait-Morin fino alla sua morte nel 1970. Il suo mezzo di trasporto, quando partecipava alle riunioni aziendali, a Aubervilliers (vicino Parigi), è stata sempre la sua bicicletta. Da allora in poi Zéfal non ha mai smesso di vendere questi leggendari punta piedi e le cinghiette.

Eugene Christophe was a French cyclist born on the 22nd of January 1885 in Paris. Nicknamed “Le Vieux Gaulois” (“the old Gaul”), he won the Milan-San Remo in 1910 with a lead of several hours, finishing the race half frozen after riding in 30 cm of snow. His fame increased in the 1913 Tour de France. While leading the race he was hit by a car at the top of the “col du Tourmalet”, the impact snapping his fork. After walking for 9 miles, he found a blacksmith and repaired his fork himself in order to resume the race. In 1919 he became the first racer ever to wear the yellow jersey. He is also viewed as the inventor of the toe clip. In 1925, he sold his invention to the company Poutrait-Morin now known as Zéfal, Eugène Christophe was a Director of Poutrait-Morin until his death in 1970. His mode of transport when attending board meetings, in Aubervilliers (near Paris), was always his bicycle. Since then Zéfal has never stopped selling these legendary clips and straps.
