Apocalypse now

 Da giovane ho amato ‘Cuore di tenebra’ il romanzo avventuroso di Joseph Conrad. Francis Ford Coppola si è poi ispirato ad esso per realizzare il suo speciale film sulla guerra in Viet Nam dal titolo ‘Apocalypse now’, uscito nel 1979, quando ancora ero uno studente. Quel film mi è rimasto nel cuore (come una tenebra). La scena iniziale degli elicotteri americani pronti a gettare napalm, al mattino presto, sulla popolazione inerme, col sottofondo della splendida ed angosciante ‘The end’, canzone mitica dei Doors, è rimasta indelebile nella mia memoria e nella storia del cinema. Questa bici mimetica è fatta per ricordarmi che la guerra, sempre e dovunque, è la soluzione meno appropriata anche nel peggiore conflitto.

When I was young I loved ‘Hearth of darkness’, an adventure novel by Joseph Conrad. Francis Ford Coppola got inspiration by it for his special movie on the Viet Nam war ‘Apocalypse now’, released in 1972, when I was still a student. That movie lasted in my heart (like darkness). The initial cut with the helicopter ready to throw napalm on the people behind, early in the morning, with the wonderful and still distressing song ‘The end’ by The Doors, is still in my memory e in the movie history. This bike ‘camouflage’ is done also to remind me that the war, always and everywhere, is the less appropriate solution even to the worst conflict.
