[urbanvelo.org]

Hip hip hurrà: tornano gli ecoincentivi - the ecoincentives are back

(Leggi l’articolo da corriere.it)

Panino appetitoso – Appetizing sandwich

Appetizing sandwich
People are constantly searching out new trends in products and clothing, while others who are less fortunate don’t have the means to acquire either. Those who are aware of this often give money to charities. We’d like to create a trend, which doesn’t reflect these global inequalities. Pieter Janssen from ‘
Design Amsterdam’ helped us to put a Sandwich bike on the market which isn’t just useful and stylish, but also twice as cheap to produce, so when someone purchases a bike at the ordinary price, there’s enough left over to donate one to someone else.

La bici che non tradì mai – The bike that never betrayed

The bike that never betrayed
"Allied Forces landing in Sicily, on the night between 9 and 10 July 43, surprised me with my family except my father who was at the Harbor-Port Empedocles, in Serradifalco in the middle of Sicily where we were displaced to escape bombing. The war came to Serradifalco few days after the Allied landing occurred during the night between July nine and ten, when the German division "Herman Goering "was deployed to defend a line that runs through Serradifalco. One morning it was barely dawn, I heard a deafening silence. I stepped out of the gate and saw a parade of the first giant U.S. tank preceded by a jeep with a general, the mythical Patton. When the Americans arrived in Serradifalco it was a month that I had no news of my father, so I asked our hosting aunt if she had a bicycle, at the time the only possible device. My aunt said, “you've got a bicycle”. It was a Montante bike because the Montante bike was manufactured exactly in Serradifalco. It was supplied to the Police, to the Army, to civils and there were of two types: a bicycle with solid tires for the officers to avoid to see an officer policeman repairing a tire. And I took one of these bikes with solid tires. Just begun the road to Porto Empedocles, 50 km or more in a road of the time, I saw that the road surface was full of metal, the huge number of tanks going back had turned the bottom of the road in a series of metal things. I said I will never make it through. I did not know that tires were solid, then! I never broke a tire! Did not break the wheel, did not breakanything. But what a beautiful bike! A wonderful Montante bike! Was tough, light, elegant, functional. Those bikes were produced by the brand founded by
Calogero Montante from Serradifalco and behind it there was a history of success. God bless the Montante bikes! I ran in a sleeveless shirt and shorts, and so I arrived. And I was anxious, these soldiers went the wrong way, not knowing if I was running desperate to get news of my father or if I was running towards a new world. I realized later that there was this desire for freedom! I arrived in Agrigento there wasn’t the sea, in its place a line of warships, that a guy next to me said, "you can walk to Tunisia ", which was true, you could walk from ship to ship and get there. I told the story of this bike, that even for the return trip never betrayed me, to the grandson of the guy who built it; inspired this way and encouraged he rebult the same copy of the time. And it is for me, how can I say, a symbol of race to freedom. So to speak."

Elogio della bicicletta - In praise of cycling

Ivan Illich,

In praise of cycling
"The bicycle requires little space. You can park eighteen in the same space of a car, you can move thirty in the space devoured by a single car." A passionate and persuasive apology of the bicycle: of its beauty and wisdom, of its energy alternative to the growing shortage of energy and the suffocating pollution. Illich notes perceptively that the bicycle and the car were invented by the same generation.

Una Freccia di bici – An Arrow of bike

An Arrow of bike
Jinbei Yamada has been selling his cult bikes from a corner shop in Tokyo since 1972. The sign above the door says it all: Simple is Best. Customers can choose from basic designs in 18 colours. They can also buy the bikes in kit form - hence another shop sign: "Your bike made by yourself". Many opt to buy the kit and build their bike in the
Arrow shop under Yamada's watchful eye. He is adamant it only takes a couple of hours. "I realised, if I could do it, anyone could," he says. Yamada's view is that a town bike should be strong, narrow and light; popular styles include the Yamajin and the Classic, the simplest of all, with a foot brake and no mud guards. Working to a soundtrack of modern jazz, Yamada doesn't take life too seriously. Arrow only makes around 1,000 bikes a year and Yamada has no plans to employ more people: "Too much stress," he says. Yasuhiro Yamagami builds the frames in Okutama and four franchises have been opened around Japan. "There are plenty of cheap bikes out there," says Yamada. "I buy the best parts and that's why the bikes are so good." Yamada takes a strict line on branding: there's not a hint of a logo on an Arrow. "You've already paid for the product; I don't see why you should advertise it too," he says. (From the magazine “Monocle”, issue 03, volume 01, May 2007.

SanPaBike

In the years leading names from the world of cycling have turned to our laboratory for the production of their frames. Pesenti, Fondriest, Cinelli and Carrera to name a few. Currently, our largest customer is Carrera. The custom frame, created to fit in the best possible way to every single person and then to take advantage of the performance of each athlete, helps create harmony with the bicycle. The construction is identical to that provided for a standard frame, except for the fact that it is based on the detection of the anthropometric measures of the athlete to obtain, respecting the needs of the customer, the most suitable frame.

But we should not think the bike Aurumania as a normal city bike or racing bike, but rather as a jewel on two wheels. 24 carat gold and well 600 Swarovski crystals scattered everywhere. It will be produced only in ten pieces and is easy to imagine that most of these will end up in the UAE. The finishing touches are in genuine and luxurious leather, the Aurumania logo is elegantly decorated between petals of gold. The sale price is $ 102,418.60 and you can place orders only through the official website of

The beauty of cycling
1948: released in theaters “Bicycle Thiefs” by Vittorio de Sica. It will pass just a year and Fausto Coppi, will be the winner, riding his Bianchi, in the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, and will become the hero of the epic modern, celebrated by Roland Barthes. And it is in the climate of hope and devastation, destruction and rebirth after the war that requires the contemporary myth of the bicycle, a myth, perhaps now ready to become ecological and democratic utopia. Augé clearly analyzes the "new humanism of cyclists," which cancels the class differences, leads to equality, brings the existence in our cities back to the right times and rhythms, transforming the streets in urban areas to be discovered with the regular pedaling and reopens the doors, ultimately, to dreams and future.
