“Tornemo indrio (back to the roots)” is a 4 days workshop open to 15 participants where Dario Pegoretti will teach how to build bike frames with the traditional Italian technique.
The goal is to demonstrate how it is possible to handcraft a beautiful steel frame bike just using few simple tools such as a vice, a hacksaw, a ruler and a welding torch.
The participants will be divided in teams of 3-4 people and each team will make their own bicycle under Dario Pegoretti’s supervision.

I arrived on the industry’s doorstep by accident and poorly prepared, and have managed to eke out nearly four decades of a career from it all. Some of it can be attributed to beginner’s luck. But those early, innocent days of the 1970s are long gone and I am not. I’m here, still enjoying the trade, the lifestyle, and all things that come with making, riding, and racing bicycles. "Ever since cycling for the first time without stablisers I have been fascinated by human propulsion. Over the years the myth of the monowheel has become an equal fascination. Since the 1860's many patents have been filed in the monowheel's name and today there are even rumors of a production monowheel in China, but as it stands there is nothing currently available. As we can't buy a monowheel we made one,The attraction of this project is venturing into the unknown. We don't suggest for one moment that a functioning human powered monowheel could ever provide an improvement on the modern bicycle. Instead its value would come from the discourse and ideas generated as a result of this research. Commissioned by Issey Miyake for the xx21st Centry Man Exhibition @21_21 Design Sight Tokyo. People are constantly searching out new trends in products and clothing, while others who are less fortunate don’t have the means to acquire either. Those who are aware of this often give money to charities. We’d like to create a trend, which doesn’t reflect these global inequalities. Pieter Janssen from ‘Design Amsterdam’ helped us to put a Sandwich bike on the market which isn’t just useful and stylish, but also twice as cheap to produce, so when someone purchases a bike at the ordinary price, there’s enough left over to donate one to someone else.

Funzionalista - Functionalist

Il Velodromo di Helsinki è un velodromo all'aperto e stadio di calcio sito a Helsinki, Finlandia. Fu costruito fra il 1938 e il 1940 in occasione delle Olimpiadi estive del 1940 che vennero annullate a causa della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Dopo la guerra, divenne sede delle Olimpiadi estive del 1952. L’edificio è stato progettato da Hilding Ekelund in stile funzionalista.

The Helsinki Velodrome is an outdoor velodrome and football stadium in Helsinki, Finland. It was built in 1938–1940 for the 1940 Summer Olympics which were cancelled due to World War II. After the war, it was a venue of the 1952 Summer Olympics. The protected functionalist concrete building was designed by Hilding Ekelund.

Nasce dalla penna sofisticata di Arndt Menke-Zumbrägel questa splendida bici dal telaio interamente realizzato in legno. Il giovane designer tedesco, laureatosi a Berlino, l’ha realizzata nel 2008 denominandola Holzweg (letteralmente: legnovia) e partendo dal concettuale tema di ricerca: “Fibra di legno come un materiale moderno. Lo sviluppo di un nuovo tubo di materiali provenienti da strati di fibra di legno. Lo sviluppo di un nuovo sistema di smorzamento da strati di cenere.”

Wood fiber as a modern material
This beautiful bike with the frame entirely made of wood comes from the sophisticated pen of Arndt Menke-Zumbrägel. The young German designer, graduated in Berlin, built it in 2008 calling it Holzweg (literally: woodenway) and starting from the conceptual research subject: "Wood fiber as a modern material. The development of a new pipe material from layers of wood fiber. The development of a new system of damping from layers of ash."

Nella mecca del mountain biking statunitense, sulle rive del Superior Lake nel Michigan, a Marquette, si è insediato Andy Gregg, un designer che ha trascorso molti anni in mezzo alle bici e nei negozi di bici. Bike Furniture Design è nata nel 1990 e produce oggetti d’arredo fabbricati esclusivamente con pezzi e componenti di biciclette in disarmo, nello stile del ‘classic modern’. Gli appassionati sono invitati a consultare l’ampio catalogo e soprattutto ad inviare materiali ciclistici da (è proprio il caso di dirlo) “ri-ciclare”, in cambio di generosi sconti sugli oggetti da collezione realizzati dall’eccentrico Andy.

Bike Furniture Design was founded in 1990 and produces items of furniture manufactured exclusively by parts of bicycles and components in disarmament, in the style of 'modern classic'. The fans are invited to consult the extensive catalog and especially to send materials(as to say it) to "re-cycle", in exchange for generous discounts on collectible items handmade by the eccentric Andy.
