Il bello della bicicletta

1948: esce nelle sale “Ladri di biciclette” di Vittorio de Sica. Passerà appena un anno e Fausto Coppi, trionfatore in sella alla sua Bianchi di Giro d’Italia e Tour de France, diventerà l’eroe dell’epopea moderna celebrato da Roland Barthes. Ed è proprio nel clima di devastazione e speranza, di distruzione e rinascita dell’immediato dopoguerra che si impone il mito contemporaneo della bicicletta, un mito oggi forse maturo per trasformarsi in utopia ecologista e democratica. Augé analizza lucidamente il «nuovo umanesimo dei ciclisti», che annulla le differenze di classe, induce all’uguaglianza, riconduce l’esistenza nelle nostre città a tempi e ritmi più sostenibili, trasforma le vie urbane in spazi da scoprire con la cadenza regolare della pedalata e riapre così le porte, in ultima analisi, al sogno e all’avvenire.

The beauty of cycling

And it is in the climate of hope and devastation, destruction and rebirth after the war that requires the contemporary myth of the bicycle, a myth, perhaps now ready to become ecological and democratic utopia. Augé clearly analyzes the "new humanism of cyclists," which cancels the class differences, leads to equality, brings the existence in our cities back to the right times and rhythms, transforming the streets in urban areas to be discovered with the regular pedaling and reopens the doors, ultimately, to dreams and future.
